Blogs - Money Maker or Waste of Time?

Can you really make money blogging? Yes, you can.

Can you make a LOT of money? Probably not.

Very few bloggers really make it big. And out of those bloggers who hit it off, their blog is not their main source of income. Even Darren Rowse of ProBlogger.net shared that his blog was one of his least money makers.

Don’t make your blog your main source of income. Or else, you’ll go hungry because blogging takes time. A LOT of time. Yes, it’s good to earn money from your adsense or maybe even from your private ads but I doubt the money is enough.

So is blogging really a waste of my time? Not quite! You see, it may take a lot of time and you might not be able to earn a lot from your blog but building credibility and exposure online could very well be the key to your success.

From the words of Brian Clark of CopyBlogger.com:

Copyblogger has allowed me to raise my profile to the extent that I have a wider choice of partners to collaborate with on profitable projects. Most of what I do is behind the scenes—I produce web projects and let other people be the stars.

I will say that my blog is one of the most popular in the world, and yet the revenue it brings in from advertising is laughable compared to what I make with my other online projects.

Have your blog. Build reputation and expand your online network. But have behind the scene projects to earn some moolahs. Brian further explains new ways on how to earn money online on his free report.

I highly recommend reading it.

Yeah, it takes a lot of time. And for me, the money is more than enough when I started receiving my Adsense checks, which started 4 months after I started my niche blog. My earnings on blogging is now more than what my current day job is giving me.

Hi marhgil. It’s great for you to be earning that much. Although you did work on your blog for 4 months before getting there. But it’s good to know that a fellow blogger is earning very good money from adsense. Do you have other niche blogs? Or is that your only blog?

I opened several blogs on blogspot and only focused on my text messages blog when I saw that it’s the one making money. After earning a decent amount from it, I decided to get a hosted blog and macuha.com was born last January. Now, macuha.com is earning as much as my text messages blog. Maybe, I’ll start another blog next year :)

I agree that it takes a lot of time to be noted by other bloggers and readers..

It is not just like a food..mix it cook it and eat it.. You have to harvest the raw materials peel it off.. and wait for the proper timing..

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Dexter. A very good metaphor for blogging. Timing plays a very important role and you have to know when to act quickly when it does come.
