Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 Review

I’ve just installed the latest Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 Antivirus or Kaspersky version 8 in my laptop and I must say it’s a big big improvement on my old antivirus. I was using Avira Antivir Personal Edition. It’s a big big improvement actually. Let me share a little of the advantages with Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS) 2009.

Is The Asus Eee PC For You?

Eee Pc with McBilly

With the Christmas season picking up, I’ve been busy doing a lot of preparation and of course, shopping! :D One item I’m looking forward to buying is an Asus Eee PC.

Fortunately, I found an Asus Eee PC at SM City Cebu just today. It was one of 10 freshly delivered units. The earlier batch sold like hotcakes. Why you say? Well, let’s get up close and personal with the product after the jump.

Akismet vs Defensio Anti Spam Review

Akismet VS Defensio Anti Spam

Akismet, which is the anti-spam plugin that comes bundled with every installation of Wordpress, recently welcomed a new competitor in the anti-spam market. And it was Defensio.

Defensio was welcomed well by the blogosphere with a lot of reviews. And a lot of bloggers including Yuga tried the new plugin. Because of the good reviews it was getting, I also tested it.

After a week of using Defensio, I have decided to switch back to Akismet. It might be because Defensio is still new, but the fact is, I’m not getting favorable results with Defensio.

Innocent Comments Getting Trapped in the Graveyard

Defensio Anti Spam Screenshot

Okay, I know Defensio is still trying to learn it’s way around on what’s spam or not. That’s cool with me. But after a week has gone by, it still can’t tell whether a comment is innocent or spam. Not cool.

Conversations are time sensitive and I just can’t risk the comments of my readers getting stuck in the graveyard.

Ease and Time Efficiency

Akismet Dashboard Screenshot

Another reason I found Akismet better was the efficient integration with the Wordpress Dashboard. Whenever I log-in to my dashboard, I can instantly check for new spams and click the spam comment link to be taken directly to the Akismet panel.

In Defensio however, it takes me more time to check because it does not have a shortcut within the dashboard. I have to manually go to comments panel, and then go to Defensio panel. That’s a waste of loading time for me.

Akismet is Better (For now?)

In conclusion, Akismet is just downright better. It has better accuracy in my experience and more time efficient with it’s usability. But who knows, Defensio might get better. But for now, they’re nowhere near Akismet.

What do you think? Have you tried switching to Defensio yourself?

Widgetbucks Sucks and You Know It.

Widgetbucks Sucks and it rhymes

Widgetbucks has made frontpage recently because of a change in their logo. Apparently, they want to make it rhyme. Well, the new logo looks good and the rhyming part is a great bonus.

If you still haven’t figured it out, the above paragraph is a joke. On the other hand, Widgetbucks is really getting frontpage news all over the internet today when they announced that clicks of visitors from outside US and Canada will not be considered valid clicks. In other words, you won’t get paid.

Honestly, I am not really affected with this sudden change because I have removed widgetbucks from my site way before this announcement hit the news. I wasn’t sure if they would really pay the publishers and I guess I was right.

Seriously, what Widgetbucks did here is just plain evil. After the countless efforts of blogs and sites around the world have given to widgetbucks, widgetbucks suddenly cuts off the very thing they were promoted for.

What do you think? Still interested in that free $25?

Interested in a Motorola V6 Maxx?

I hate complicated phones which is why I recently migrated from a Nokia user to a Motorola user. I bought a Motorola V6 Maxx. No, I’m not a motorola Fan boi or anything, but I want to share an unbiased review of my phone.

I had this phone for about a month now, and I think I have experienced enough for a credible review.

Design - 5/5

I love the design, period. Yeah, the design might have been reused from the V3 series, but why change when you already have something good? The coating of the phone is also a great choice. It is rubberized so that to prevent scratches, but still glimmers it’s stylish glass design on the front of the phone.

Speed - 4/5

One of the reasons I hate using a Nokia phone is the speed. I hate to wait for long loading times. Luckily, V6 Maxx runs faster but it also loads a little longer when browsing over high def images. Overall, I’d still go for Motorola over Nokia in terms of speed.

Features - 3/5

I’m going to say it again. I hate complicated phones. The main reason I bought this phone is because of it’s simplicity. The phone includes common features like calendar, calculator, reminders, etc. But the sad thing is it doesn’t have a quick notes feature where I can scribble some notes. Also, if you plan to install a lot of applications on your phone, I suggest you stay away from this phone.

I tried to install openOffice but it’s not recognized. So, in terms of features, Motorola lacks several of them.

Overall - 4/5

To summarize everything, If you want simple and elegant phones, then this is the phone for you. If you want high powered cellphones that can do almost anything at the cost of speed, then stay away from this phone. What do you think?

I took the simple and elegant approach. Why else would I buy a laptop if I want my phone to do almost everything?
