Michael Jackson has died from a cardiac arrest at age 50. Personally, I am in shock. I was a big fan of Michael Jackson way back and even though he has been very controversial in the latter part of his life, he has been undoubtedly a big influence in the dance and music scene in the early 80s. In short, music wouldn’t be what is it today if not for MJ.

Having sold over 750,000,000 (yes that’s in the millions) albums worldwide, garnering 13 Grammy Awards, 13 number one singles in his solo career, and being inducted as Most Successful Entertainer of All Time by Guinness World Records, MJ will definitely be missed.

I also love a lot of his songs such as “Heal the World”, “The Girl is Mine”, “Thriller” (which was used in the famous Dancing Filipino Inmates Video), “Billie Jean”, “Man in the Mirror”, “Beat It” and a lot more.

Moonwalk Tribute Video

As a tribute, here’s a video of his famous Moonwalk. He is just awesome. Truly the King of Pop! Rest in Peace MJ!

How to reduce image size for email attachment? Normally, if you use a picture straight from your camera, the images are really big. If you plan to upload or attach it to your email, you will have a hard time so you definitely need to reduce the image size of the pictures first. Here’s a detailed step by step instruction on how to reduce the picture size. Enjoy.

Step 1:

First you need to check the size of the picture or pictures you want to upload. As you can see in the first screenshot, the size of our sample-picture is 2.2mb. That is really big and could take you a lot of time to upload especially if you’re using Wi-Fi, wireless internet or on a slow connection.

Step 2:

Go to this website and scroll down below the page to look for this form. Click BROWSE and look for the specific image you want to reduce the file size.

Step 3:

After that, proceed to “I do not care about the size. Just make the image:” and select 75% or 50% depending on how small you want the image to be.

Step 4:

Now hit “okay”. It will load and depending on the size of the image and your internet connection speed, this could take 1 minute to 2 minutes. Just be patient and wait for it to load.

Step 5:

After the image has been resized, you will be taken to a image has been successfully resized page.

Step 6:

Look for the line “you can click here to download your image!” and RIGHT CLICK on the HERE word to save your image. Depending on what browser you are using, select the option “Save Link As” or “Save Image As”.

Step 7:

Once clicked, a pop up browser will open and you need to make sure that the file type is “All Files”.

Step 8:

Then change the Name of the file to whatever name you want and ADD the .jpg after the filename. It should read “name-of-picture.jpg”

After that, it will save the picture and you can see that the image size has been greatly reduced. Congratulations!

You can now upload or attach the image to your email faster. Thanks and I hope you enjoyed this simple tutorial.

Largest Pizza in the World? Well, not exactly. But Mama Maria’s Pizza does in fact serve the biggest round commercial Pizza in the world at 52 inches. It’s humongous and monstrous. I doubt if anyone can finish eating the whole pizza alone. This authentic Italian Pizza restaurant started out in Bacolod City and was an immediate success.

Mama Maria’s was the original and biggest Pizza here in the Philippines, serving commercial pizzas at 30 inches. Also, they have new Pizza flavors for the thousand pizza patriots that love pizza. They are now serving Crocodile Meat and Fish Kinilaw Pizzas. Wow. I’d love to try that!

Just Look at that HUGE PIZZA! YUM YUM

Their 52″ Pizza. Monstrous!

I’ve tried eating Mama Maria’s before at Bacolod, but there’s none here in Cebu. Which is why I’m excited for the grand launching of Mama Maria’s Pizza later today 5pm at Gorordo Avenue between Cardinal Rosales & Archbishop Reyes. They’re finally opening up a branch here in Cebu! Yey.

Ms. Jhay Montelibano with Bosconian priests and school administrators

For those who know me well, they know that my favorite food is Pizza. So I’ll definitely be there to cover the launching and to try out that Crocodile meat and Fish Kinilaw Pizza. I’m already drooling looking at the pictures. Yum!

Will post more pictures of the Mama Maria’s Pizza here in Cebu. =]

I managed to get a picture with Mr Angelito Domingo, the speaker from AIM. He was really good and very humble. Thank you sir

Final Thoughts:

I enjoyed the 3 day event very much and learned a lot too. I now understand how to make different candle designs. Haha. The silk screen T-shirt printing was pretty cool too. Most importantly was featuring different businesses. In the Road Map to entrepreneurship, we have to go through the process of opportunity seeking, opportunity screening and then opportunity seizing. There are endless opportunities that we can take advantage of, we just need to open our eyes and and seize them.

Thanks to two highly creative and aggressive companies, Little Big Details and Dream Solutions, for organizing this event with the mission of promoting grassroots entrepreneurship in the Philippines. Thanks to all the sponsors, Globe, San Miguel, Philamlife, Coca Cola, Mary Kay, Santuario de Bacolod, Oleia Cetylated Oil and to Mr Vladimir Gonzalez for raffling off the grand prize– a brand new Food Cart! Yey.

More power to you guys.

The Cebu Bloggers Society was recently invited to have fun and experience Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort. Initially, I wasn’t too excited. I’ve been to Maribago Bluewaters before and it wasn’t too exciting. But when we did get to the event. I was amazed at how fast they expand and upgrade their infrastructures. The place was great.

They have 3 different swimming pools scattered around it’s 7 hectare property. Their main pool is the open for casual visitors and the other 2 pools are exclusive for in house customers. I personally enjoyed swimming there as their pool was heated which is perfect for night swimming.

Aside from the beautiful scenery, recreational and residential infrastructures, Maribago boasts it’s Amuma spa which incorporates ancient and modern therapies from Visayan-Filipino, Asian and western cultures. I wasn’t able to try it out so I can’t really say what’s different with the Amuma way.

Cebu Bloggers picture time. Haha. This was the perfect time for bonding with the CBS members. Wait. Make that CBS family. Haha.

The buffet was pretty good as well. We were treated with their Barrio Fiesta Filipino Cuisine buffet with a 45 minute cultural presentation. The food was very good although I wasn’t able to enjoy everything because I just recently had braces installed. It’s really hard to eat. Haha.

I liked the life size chess board on the white sands of the beach. It was pretty cool. Miong looks to have enjoyed it. Haha.

For those who know me personally, they know that I’m a beach person. I prefer water sports than nature trekking, so I loved the fact that they have a beautiful view from the beach. They even have a small man made island for those that want to have a special private wedding. Haha.

Actually, if my partner would agree, I want us to read our vows in a beach wedding. It’s so intimate and personal! Haha.

Final Thoughts:

So after the tiring bonding but enjoyable experience, group picture before going home. Haha. Personally, I think Maribago Bluewaters is going in the right direction with their high end designs and fast expansions. The design of their resort is up there. Mostly catering to international and asian markets.

I’d love to spend a couple of nights there myself, of course, with a special someone. Haha.

Lastly, thanks a bunch to Ruben Licera, the Maribago management and staff for the warm welcome. And of course, thanks a bunch to my CBS Family. I had a lot of Fun! And thanks for the pictures! Haha. Photo credits goes to Bryan, Clarence, Doyzkie, Karen, Mikyu and Tiborsho.

Asus Ultimate 2009 Overclocking Show will be taking place this Saturday May 23, 2009 at around 3-5pm and are inviting tech enthusiast for an afternoon of Overclocking competition. It will be held at the Entertainment Plaza (near Food Court) SM City Cebu.

This was supposed to be an Asus PC Fair which will be held on May 14-24, 2009; but to make it more meaningful, they decided to have a competition on Overclocking skills using the top hardware from the different brands. This is also a ASUS Ultimate PC Fair which will be at the SM City Cebu Atrium (Near Kameraworld).

What Exactly is Overclocking?

So what exactly is Overclocking? Basically it’s the process of running a computer component at a higher clock rate (more clock cycles per second) than it was designed for or was specified by the manufacturer, usually practiced by personal computer enthusiasts seeking an increase in the performance of their computers.

For most, overclocking is really being used by enthusiasts who regularly upgrade their hardware. It’s cheaper because they can purchase a slower, cheaper component and overclock it to the speed of a more expensive component. I’d love to master overclocking myself. Haha.

Are you guys going to the event? It will be cool to look at how professionals do it. I’ll be there to learn their techniques

Congratulations to all the graduates of 2009! And a special congratulations to all my Tay Tung high school batchmates from Bacolod City. Yahooo! =] After all the sleepless nights doing projects and graveyard duties, you can finally taste your sweet victory.

I’m sure you’re getting mixed feelings now. I felt that before. Happy to finally see the results of my hard work from school. Sad to be parting ways from college friends and college life. Lost because I am not sure what to do next. Afraid of what lies ahead of me.

So allow me to share my thoughts, hopefully you guys will enjoy them.

Principle 1 - There is No Post-Graduation Rule

Okay, so your friend was immediately offered a job after graduation. Cool. But don’t get pressured. There’s actually no rule that says you need to get a job after graduating. And unlike what other unemployed fresh grads brand themselves, you are not a bum even if you don’t have a job.

I was actually pressured when I was about to graduate because I thought I “need” to move on to the next level which is to get a job. But the next level doesn’t necessarily mean getting a job. There are a ton of other options, like getting a masters degree, being an apprentice, going into sales and a ton of other things which we will discuss later.

Principle 2 - Don’t Let Others be the Driver of Your Life

As teens, young people or fresh graduates, we often cannot answer what we really want to do because we have yet to discover it. Or even more common, we became a different person in order to please our family.

You enjoy playing basketball but mother made you play the violin, you enjoy arts and craft but dad wanted you to enroll in car mechanics, you want to take up engineering but took up nursing. Well, that’s normal.

You took up “appropriate” courses / hobbies. You did what was “expected”. But often times, you might think in the back of your head if you have made the right decision.

It’s also possible to “think” you like doing something because everybody expects you to like it. Here are some things you’ll notice if you really like doing something:

You’re excited to wake up in the morning, very energetic and you never want to take a rest.

You easily forget about the time when doing it.

You can talk about it for hours and you usually browse the internet or magazines for topics about it.

Principle 3 - Discover Your Passion

To discover your passion, you need to stop doing things out of habit. Eliminate some of the useless things from your routine so you can see clearly on what makes you happy. And most importantly, try out new things! How will you know you are not a good speaker, if you’re afraid to try. You might even discover that you love speaking and connecting with your audience.

Listen to yourself. Next time a little voice speaks out to you saying “This is exciting. I love doing this.” Listen! Try out new things! Some things to start on:

Try cooking or culinary

Learning to play the guitar

Singing in a band

Oil Painting

Learning a different language. French maybe?

Ballroom Dancing

Blogging

Making videos for YouTube

Drawing comics

Acting in Theater

Selling Real Estate

Teaching and educating others

Principle 4 - Discover and Sharpen Your Talents and Skills

I loved singing when I was growing up, but most of the time, my friends would tease me for having such a horrible singing voice. And so over the years, I believed them. My reality was that I was a bad singer but one time during college, I went karaoke singing with a well known singer here in Cebu.

I was just singing for fun and told her that I had a horrible voice. She listened and told me that I can hit some tunes correctly and my voice wasn’t really that bad. (And mukhang d naman siya nambobola Haha.) Just needs further practice and a good selection of songs. After that, I had a paradigm shift and my confidence in singing has since gone up, although just a little bit. Haha.

Anyway, talent doesn’t necessarily mean being able to sing like Sarah Geronimo, play basketball like Michael Jordan or golf like Tiger Woods. It could be simpler than that. Teaching is a talent. Being able to communicate well is a talent. Making people feel comfortable is a talent.

Now if you know what you want in life and know your talents. Then hone it! Capitalize on it.

Principle 5 - Embrace Failure and Commit Healthy Mistakes

As I have shared before, my mom always tells me and my siblings that we should commit all our mistakes as early as possible. Being a fresh graduate is a good time to commit mistakes as your bosses will be more patient with you. Of course, there is a limit, just remember to learn from the experience and grow from it.

Read my post here for a more detailed explanation on self-growth.

Principle 6 - Don’t Be Afraid to Take Calculated Risks

This one works hand in hand with committing healthy mistakes, because of not being afraid to fail, then you can take more risks. One very good example was the time when I had a big break in my web design business, I was talking to a big client who demanded a number of features for his website which at that time, I was not sure how to do it. But I confidently said yes, I can do it.

That commitment pushed me to learn more through online tutorials and I finished the website on our agreed date. It was a good feeling. And it wouldn’t have happened if I stayed in my comfort zone and told him that I didn’t know how to do it.

If a great opportunity comes up but you’re unsure of your capabilities. Don’t fret! What’s the worst thing that could happen? Failing and learning from it.

Principle 7 - Your Course Does Not Define Your Career

When I was about to graduate high school, I had a hard time choosing what course to take up. There were so many choices and honestly, I didn’t know what I wanted to do. In the end, I gambled with Information Technology which was a pretty good choice because I am enjoying my web design business. But sometimes, it gets so repetitive that I get bored.

Then I have realized that I am genuinely happier interacting with people than my computer. So I began to branch out to event hosting and even selling because through that I would be meeting different kinds of people and connecting with them. Now I can really say that I want hosting as a profession. I’ve even integrated it to my web business because through such events is where I get my clients.

A lot of successful people too have different courses or started out in different industries until they found the one where they stayed for good. Just remember the most important thing is that you enjoy and love what you are doing.

Job Hunting Guide

Okay, so you’ve finally decided to get a job. The economy now is very unstable so there are fewer jobs but that doesn’t mean you can’t get one. Here are some good tips:

Start with the basics:

Create a Resume that stands out. Here are some tips.

Understand what makes you stand out. If I’m the employer, why should I hire you compared to the hundreds of people also applying for the job?

Research the company you are applying for. A simple Google search will give you the results you want. You want to know the companies objectives, mission especially if you reach the interview portion. The employer would give you extra points for your genuine interest in helping the company.

Finding the job opportunities to apply for.

Check the classified ads in the newspaper. I know it’s basic but it’s because it still works.

Search Google for companies near your place, get a contact person and ask them if there are any openings. Who knows, they might be looking for someone but just haven’t had the time to make an ad about it.

Some online job sites where you can apply:

JobsDB.com Philippines

Craigslist Cebu

Craigslist Manila

Attend and take part in Job Fairs. There are a lot of Job Fairs usually organized by industry categories. Like Hotels and Tourism Fairs, or Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) fairs.

Craigslist is highly recommended because I have a friend who was given an Apple Mac Pro computer by his employer from Craigslist. Read my story here.

Other Career Opportunities

If You’re having a hard time getting a job. Don’t fret! You might want to consider these other opportunities:

Be a Salesman. Advantages:

You own your time. No time in and time out in the office.

It offers high potential return from low capital investment.

It’s also fun as long as you understand that selling is helping people by giving them things that they need.

Make money online by blogging. Yes. It can be done in the Philippines. A lot of Filipinos have already earned thousand of dollars through the internet.

Try out Multi-Level Marketing (commonly known as Networking). Not all networkings are scams or pyramiding. There are legitimate ones and if they have a good product, the passive income potential you can build is big.

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, we are all unique and will have different paths. Even different timelines. Others might build their empires in business while others may be happier working at a simple farm. Whatever your decisions are, just continue to follow your heart, be passionate in what you are doing, don’t compare your decisions with others and I wish you guys all the best.

I leave you with a quote from Andrew Mathews:

Doing What You Love is Not a Recipe for an Easier Life.
It is a Recipe for an Interesting Life.
You’ll Take on More Responsibilities and Problems.
But our Mission in Life is not to be Without Problems.
Our Mission in Life is to get Excited!

Congratulations again my friends and congratulations to all the graduates of 2009! Phew. That was a long post. I hope you guys like it.
