Learn How to Code in PHP and Be Successful Online

Do I really need to learn programming to be successful in my online business? The straight answer is definitely NO. There is a lot of successful people in the web who know very little in programming. But knowing how to code can significantly increase your chances of success online, not to mention setting yourself apart from others.

I know programming is not for everyone. If you are already passionate in your blogging and writing skills or more on the artistic side with Photoshop, then please disregard this post. It’s not meant for you. ;)

This post is meant for people looking into developing websites for big companies or developing their own friendster and hopefully making it big in the future.

Why PHP and Not Other Programming Languages?

One word, Open Source. Because of that developing websites in PHP is cheaper and because PHP is the most widely used scripting language for the web today, learning it would be easier because of the vast tutorials and PHP scripts available in the web today.

I Want to Learn But I Don’t Know Where to Start

The real reason why I wanted to write this is because I’ve been in this situation. The situation where I want to learn how to code, but I really don’t know where to start. Well, heres a little push.

First of all, if you really don’t know anything about coding then it would be best to learn the basics first. Namely, HTML and some basic scripting statements. Being able to edit your WordPress themes the way you want is an additional.

Next would be to study the syntax of PHP. Although there are a lot of PHP tutorial sites in the net, I find w3schools tutorial the best. Read it, understand and digest.

I know the Syntax, What do I do with It

When I first started out, I studied all the syntax and statements but don’t know how to apply them. To push you to the right direction, it is best to start on making a small script for a specific purpose.

For a nice starting script, try playing with making your own online calendar. Here are the scripts I used:

Hope this pushes you guys in the right direction. For more tips, please consider subscribing to my feeds. Enjoy ;)
