MV Doulos Ship (Floating Library) is in Cebu Now! Cheap Books Available!

MV Doulos the Ship is now in Cebu! MV Doulos is the world’s oldest active ocean-faring passenger ship but is now currently used as a floating bookshop. Books are cheap and you will find a lot of treasures on that boat!

The ship travels all around the world and all crew members are not paid. They even have to pay for their own food and lodging just to volunteer. Wow! This is a great opportunity guys!

The ship is docked in Cebu’s Pier 2. Not totally sure what specific pier. The Ship is docked in Pier 2. (Thanks Keren) This is our chance, blog about this and scatter it all through out Cebu! There will be a lot of great books on that boat, most importantly, they’re very cheap.

Update:

Bookshop Opening Hours:
Tuesday – Saturday: 10am – 10pm
Sunday & Monday: 2pm – 10pm

MV Doulos is a fun place. May cafe rin sila sa taas ng barko. The multinational staff? Mababait. Saka mura din yung books.

Nung last time na dumaan sila dito, I was at the opening and wrote this story for Malaya: http://tonyocruz.com/?p=510

ive been there, was quite disappointed really. After all, I am a book lover and a book worm. Books is the main reason why Im into whatever I am right now…

So, here are three things I didn’t like:
1.The books are cheap yes… but they’re also old… like 10-20 years old.
2.They aren’t categorized properly (people expect a floating library, not a floating stack of books.. I mean come on, even our books at home are categorized like the school library)
3.Stairs.. I had no problem with it, but the people who had difficulty did(e.g. My mom, lolas, and ladies wearing heels)

Here’s what I did like:
1.Ice Cream-although it tasted like any Ice cream in the HS canteen, but still, it’s cool to buy in the boat. lols.
2.Cookie. Thick Giant cookie.. need I say more?
3.Collectible books.-although some books there are really old, old doesn’t always mean a bad thing right? I was able to buy a thick photography book there which give me an insight on what the photography world was back then even before the DSLR’s, also happy with my thick Encyclopedia of Dogs which I bought with my own money for 500php. woot woot!

All in all, the place was fine.. but still needs a great deal of improvement if it wishes to receive more customers..

Hi Vanjohnn. Wow. That’s quite an experience you had there! Now it really makes me want to go. Big Cookie! Haha. That’s also what I heard. Masarap daw yung cookie nila. Hehe.

About the books being not categorized can be a big issue. Hehe. Although it can be understandable because they are volunteers. Or maybe they just want to create that feeling of searching for hidden treasures inside the ship? Haha. Anyway, it’s a good thing you found books that you love Vanjohnn! Galing. :D
