Widgetbucks Sucks and You Know It.

Widgetbucks Sucks and You Know It.

Widgetbucks Sucks and it rhymes

Widgetbucks has made frontpage recently because of a change in their logo. Apparently, they want to make it rhyme. Well, the new logo looks good and the rhyming part is a great bonus.

If you still haven’t figured it out, the above paragraph is a joke. On the other hand, Widgetbucks is really getting frontpage news all over the internet today when they announced that clicks of visitors from outside US and Canada will not be considered valid clicks. In other words, you won’t get paid.

Honestly, I am not really affected with this sudden change because I have removed widgetbucks from my site way before this announcement hit the news. I wasn’t sure if they would really pay the publishers and I guess I was right.

Seriously, what Widgetbucks did here is just plain evil. After the countless efforts of blogs and sites around the world have given to widgetbucks, widgetbucks suddenly cuts off the very thing they were promoted for.

What do you think? Still interested in that free $25?

hehe. pang-asar nga sila eh. since may mga visitors ako from US thru search engine, nag Geo targeting din ako. Wish me luck na makuha kinita ko :D

  2. jehzlau says:

I’ll still wait for their first payment, they’ve stated in their blog that the October earnings that are posted in My Bucks page will be paid ^_^

  3. NSpeaks says:

WidgetBucks still appearing on your recommended money makers in sidebar? For Referrals?

  4. McBilly says:

Hi marghil. It’s very good that you have US traffic coming into your site. Geo targeting is a great idea. Smart move! Too bad for other filipinos where their traffic is mostly from the Philippines.

Anyway, Gudluck marhgil. I’m still pretty skeptical after what they did but I think they’ll pay you. Well, you just need to reach the minimum payout. Hehe

  5. McBilly says:

Hey jehzlau, hope you get your first payout. :)

Just to be clear on this, will you be paid even if you haven’t reach the minimum payout? As long as it’s posted in My Bucks under October earnings?

  6. McBilly says:

Hi Navjot. Thanks for bringing that up.

No. I’m not after the referrals anymore. I’m just deciding on what to put there as a replacement. Haha. What do you suggest? A put your ads here ad?

  7. charles says:

wow this is bad news. I’ve been using widgetbucks for a month now and still it is not converting. I guess i have to remove them in my site. How to use geo-targeting?

  8. Joni says:

Huwwaaat! matanggal nga ung widgetbucks ad ko! tsk tsk! Ang gulang naman nila.

  9. makoy says:

What I don’t like about widgetbucks is that it takes too much time to load. I would think about it if i would delete my widgetbucks code in my site. I want to get my $25 though!

  10. sylv3rblade says:

Ah.. so it’s now US only. Oh well. Bidvertiser naman or linkworth. Ganda pa naman ng performance sana ng WB sa akin kasi umabot na ako dun sa $50 mark. Oh well. BTW.. astig ha.. lipad readership mo

  11. McBilly says:

Tell me about it! But not everything Widgetbucks did was a failure, they did make a new catchy logo.

  12. NSpeaks says:

There are lot of other Affiliate programs to put there. Or you can put my site’s ad there.

  13. McBilly says:

That is also one of the reasons I removed it in my site. I guess, it really depends on how you position the ads on your site. And if it suites your niche.

Well, if you can earn another $25 from clicks then you might be able to get paid because the minimum payout is only $50. Good luck with that makoy.

  14. Teejay says:

It’s sad but true. It seems that the Philippines is being left out again. First Paypal (limited to debit and credit cards), Yahoo Ads and now WidgetBucks.

  15. marhgil says:

mukha namang magbabayad. they are currently hiring for a Marketing Project Manager. One of the task is Assisting our CFO with payment fulfillment to WidgetBucks publishers each month and other reporting/payments to our partners. Tapos na yung Geo Targeting ko. Sa US at Canada na lang makikita yung ads. So far, kumita pa rin ako $2 yesterday, from US traffic. :)

  16. McBilly says:

That’s good to know Marghil. At least the efforts of countless bloggers like yourself won’t go to waste.

Good job on the Geo-Targeting too man. Hehe.

  17. McBilly says:

Hi charles. Yeah. It pretty much sucks. But don’t worry, if you still get US traffic, here is a plugin for geo-targeting, courtesy of marghil. :)

  18. McBilly says:

Yeah. But if most of your traffic is US then you won’t have any problems with this update. Oh yeah! Haha. Thanks sylv3blade! I’m still promoting my feed to get bigger readerships.

  19. McBilly says:

It sure is Teejay. :( This is one of the reasons why it’s so much easier to sky rocket your online business if you are in the US.

  20. McBilly says:

LOL! How much are you willing to pay?

  21. sylv3rblade says:

Well I’m currently looking into YPN as an Adsense alternative, I’m waiting for their reply as of the moment. Any upcoming post on how you’ve increased readership in under a month? *hint hint*

  22. McBilly says:

Why are you even looking for an Adsense alternative? You’re not banned from adsense are you? Hehe

Also, it’s against Google TOS to run adsense along side YPN, unlike Widgetbucks which you can use as an addon to your already running adsense ads.

Already sent you an email regarding the sudden increase in readership. ;)

  23. sylv3rblade says:

Ahaha it’s not an alternative. Just want to test out their system. I’ve been hearing good things about it.

And no, Google now allows other context based publishers like Bidvertiser so long as you can distinguish one from the other, the only problem is the other party. Im still not sure if YPN allows Adsense on the same page.

Here’s a blog post about it that made digg’s front page

    Thanks for the mail ^^

  24. Reyn says:

Maybe it’s time to tap into Philippine companies and tell them how internet advertising can help their business. It’s easier to do it in the local context because advertisements are made to buy you something right?

  25. McBilly says:

That is true Reyn. Hopefully the big advertising deal Multiply got from ABS-CBN will influence other Philippine companies to look into internet advertising as a need rather than an alternative.

Anyway, do you live here in the Philippines? Based on your posts, I would say you’re in California. But that’s just me. :)

  26. Amy says:

well I had removed widgetbucks about less than two weeks after installing it…

the hell with that $25 bucks haha… sayang ad space

  27. Amy says:

I just hope that the local industry will be ready for this soon…

a lot of companies doesnt have any idea about online advertising… thats why most of our earnings are on dollars..foreign companies knows our importance.. locals dont :(

  28. McBilly says:

Haha. Good for you Amy! I’m sure you can find more profitable income streams to replace that ad space. :)

With regards to the local industry. I’m not even sure if they are ready for it. But it will be interesting to see how big an influence the ABS-CBN – Multiply Deal will be to local companies. Sometimes, it just takes a mammoth company to take the plunge, and the other companies will follow.
